Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe For People With Hip Replacements?
West Jordan Chiropractor Dirk Woodmansee talks about hip replacements and chiropractics
Have you ever wondered if chiropractic adjustments are safe for someone who has had a hip replacement? Chronic Hip pain followed by hip replacement surgery has become a household word. If feels like every Sunday I hear the older population either considering or planning a procedure for hip replacement. Hip pain can be quite debilitating to the aging population. And after a major surgery like that one starts to consider what treatment options are available for other pains like low back pain. That being said, can chiropractic treatments be performed on those with hip replacement surgery? When you consider the lower back can produce chronic hip pain you should consider chiropractic adjustments for people with who have had hip replacements.
According to an article published in Dynamic Chiropractic, Issue 682, July 29, 2011 page 14-15 by Deborah Pate, DC DABCR the US does not really have a registry to track complications with hip replacements. The author states that the Swiss have been doing a registry of hips and common complications associated. I mention this because in the absence of complicating factors hip replacements are well suited for chiropractic treatments. Complications can be most often identified by a simple x-ray. Those complications which will demonstrate on x-ray are as follows: Aseptic Loosening (75% incidence), Deep Joint Infection (8%), dislocation(6%), fracture (3%), Implant Fracture (1%), and other non reported (4%). Hip pain can often occur from chronic pain in other areas and refer to the hip.
Other conditions what create chronic hip pain is anatomic short leg syndrome, hip bursitis, herniated disc referred pain, sacral joint inflammation, foot problems, knee pain and problems, and other muscular and pain syndromes. It is important to get to the root cause of the pain. But since chiropractic is proven most effective for lower back pain you should consider chiropractic. Routine x-rays can be taken to make sure your hip replacement device is in proper place and function. You don’t have to suffer from chronic hip pain.
