Just found out? Here’s what to know first.

  • Scoliosis is a 3D curve

It’s a sideways curve of the spine with rotation, which is why it can show up as uneven shoulders, waist or ribs.

  • Growth years matter

Curves can change during growth spurts, so knowing the size of the curve and how much growth is left helps guide the plan.

  • You have options

Depending on the findings, that may mean monitoring, scoliosis-specific exercise, a custom brace, or a referral when another specialist is the right fit.

SIGNS TO WATCH FOR

What parents often notice

  • One shoulder higher than the other

  • One shoulder blade more prominent

  • Uneven waist or hips

  • A rib or back hump when bending forward

  • Head not centered over the hips

The forward bend test is a quick screen, not a diagnosis. If you see any of these, a measured evaluation tells you what’s actually going on.

YOUR EVALUATION

Measured first, so the plan fits the curve

Every recommendation starts with numbers: how large the curve is, where it is, and how much growth is left.

We repeat the same measurements during care so you can see what’s changing.

  • 01 · Your story

Family history, growth, activity and anything you’ve noticed or been told at school or a checkup.

  • 02 · Posture measurement

PostureScreen and a physical exam, including the forward bend test.

  • 03 · X-ray analysis

When clinically necessary, digital X-rays to measure the curve angle and position precisely.

  • 04 · Review of findings

What we found, what it means and your options, explained to you and your child in plain language at a review of findings visit.

3D BraceScan body scan used to design a ScoliBrace

SCOLIBRACE® · CUSTOM 3D BRACE

A brace designed for one spine: yours

ScoliBrace is a truly custom 3D brace. It starts with a 3D body scan and X-ray analysis, and is designed and made with CAD/CAM technology. Its over-corrective, asymmetrical design works with the way the spine naturally couples and rotates, rather than relying on traditional 3-point pressure.

It opens at the front, comes in a range of colors and patterns, and is used for children, adolescents and adults.

ScoliBrace may assist to:

  • Slow or stop curve progression

  • Reduce the size of the curve

  • Improve posture and appearance

  • Reduce pain

  • Improve balance in older adults

  • Reduce the need for surgery

Results vary. We’ll explain what’s realistic for your curve after your evaluation.

How the ScoliBrace process works

  • Step 1 · 3D body scan

A quick, contact-free BraceScan captures the exact shape of your torso.

  • Step 2 · Design and creation

Your scan and X-ray analysis are used to design and make the brace with CAD/CAM technology.

  • Step 3 · Fitting

We fit the brace, check comfort and position, and show you how to put it on and take it off.

  • Step 4 · Regular reviews

Scheduled check-ins and re-measurements to see how the spine is responding.

  • Step 5 · Ongoing care

Exercises and adjustments to the plan as your child grows or your needs change.

Adult degenerative scoliosis case: side posture and X-ray before bracing, in a ScoliBrace, and after 14 months, from ScoliBrace provider materials

ADULT SCOLIOSIS · DEGENERATIVE SPINES

Adults are the largest group living with scoliosis. Bracing isn’t only for kids.

Scoliosis is usually thought of as a teenage condition, but it is very common in adults, with estimates as high as 68% reported in people aged 60 to 90.¹ Some adults have a curve left over from adolescence. Others develop degenerative (de novo) scoliosis as discs and joints wear, which can bring a forward lean, lost height, back and leg pain, and less confidence on your feet.

Adult ScoliBrace® is a custom 3D brace built for this. It works by improving spinal posture, both side-to-side and front-to-back balance, and by stabilizing unstable segments of the spine. Most adults wear it part-time each day. Adult designs are low profile and nearly invisible under clothing, and the brace opens at the front so you can put it on yourself.

Who it’s for: degenerative (de novo) scoliosis · scoliosis since adolescence · age-related kyphosis (forward stoop) · chronic back pain from a curve.

Shown: an 87-year-old with adult degenerative scoliosis. Forward (sagittal) imbalance measured 14.7 cm before bracing and 4.3 cm after 14 months in a ScoliBrace. Case courtesy of ScoliCare, maker of ScoliBrace. Individual results vary.

Measured, braced, re-measured

We start with X-ray analysis, a 3D BraceScan and posture measurements. Your brace is paired with scoliosis-specific exercise on our rehab floor, supervised by our team, and we re-measure so you can see what’s changing.

As part of a complete plan, adult ScoliBrace may assist to:

  • Reduce pain

  • Slow or stop the curve from getting worse

  • Improve upright balance, which may help with fall prevention

  • Improve posture and body symmetry

  • Improve daily function and quality of life

Signs worth getting measured

  • Back pain, or leg pain from pinched nerves

  • A forward lean or hunch that’s getting harder to correct

  • Noticeable loss of height

  • A family history of scoliosis

  • Walking, standing or daily tasks getting harder
